Donna O’Connor, LCADC, LCSW
Donna O’Connor is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Arise Interventionist who specializes in addiction and family systems work at the Mental Health and Wellness Center of Madison, with dual offices located in Madison and Chatham, New Jersey. Donna brings much compassion to her work with individuals and families; she believes – strongly – that people who suffer emotionally are seeking a way out of their pain. Donna always attempts to help secure the right path towards healing. She is a gifted clinician who has an uncanny ability to reach clients where they are at and to work on freeing them from self-defeating patterns. Donna thoughtfully guides her clients through difficult life events by providing ongoing education and support to achieve solutions that lead to healthy family change.
Donna has practiced in a variety of educational and clinical settings. She is an expert presenter and has given talks on drug and alcohol addiction as well as current mental health issues. Donna handles crisis intervention with her supportive yet direct style; she develops effective treatment plans, performs comprehensive client assessments, facilitates groups, and conducts individual, couple and family counseling. As well, Donna works collaboratively with other providers to secure needed and effective aftercare programs.
In addition, as an Arise Interventionist she consults, assesses and provides case management to families. A psychotherapist specializing in addiction, Donna serves as case manager to assist clients in developing structure, balance, and routine in their daily lives. Donna has studied Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Skills (DBT) and Mindfulness modalities and uses these learned skills in her practice. Donna is committed to the improvement of her skills in the field of social work through continuing education, training seminars and collaboration with other professionals.
She is highly passionate about her work in mental health and works consistently to help people build mastery and self-esteem – the bedrock core components of recovery.
Donna brings the wisdom of 35 years of marriage and raising five adult children to her practice. She has a marvelous sense of humor and warmth which clients immediately connect to. Donna received her Masters In Social Work and Addiction Training Certification from Rutgers University.
